Employment Advisor

Southside Partnership DLR is the independent local development organisation for Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown (DLR). Its mission is to address disadvantage, social exclusion and inequality through a range of innovative and responsive strategies and actions. Southside Partnership DLR is now recruiting for the following position: Employment Advisor.

This is a 1 year contract, 35 hours per week, with potential for extension subject to funding. Starting salary is €32,687, with annual performance based increments, should the contract be extended.

The Role:

The Employment Advisor will work as part of the Social Inclusion Community Activation Programme (SICAP) Goal 3 team. The main focus will be to support targeted individuals to explore employment and training progression options. Supporting the development of improved employer engagement and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activity will also form part of this role.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Employment:

  • To provide one-to-one support and guidance to unemployed adults/young people with regard to employment, training and related opportunities
  • To prepare Personal Action Plans for SICAP clients and ensure appropriate follow-up
  • To synchronise supports to all clients under 25 years of age who are not engaged in employment, education or training and ensure all relevant data is recorded / updated appropriately on behalf of all Employment & Enterprise staff
  • To support the implementation of all employment related activities
  • To provide group skills development training supports to targeted individuals including young people / adults who are seeking employment, as required

Employer Relationship Development / CSR:

  • To work in cooperation with SSP management, across all departments, to develop increased links with local employers to better support our core client groups
  • To liaise with local employers / employer networks to ascertain their expectations in relation to potential new employees and identify / arrange training for SSP clients to bridge any gaps identified
  • To establish and develop increased Corporate Social Responsibility activity and opportunities in DLR to better support the work of Southside Partnership
  • To maintain relevant database(s) on all above employer related activities

General:

  • To work with other Partnership staff to arrange and facilitate appropriate workshops, training and information events as appropriate
  • To work with other staff to identify and support community groups / individuals to explore potential Social Enterprise development opportunities as required
  • Administration duties including inputting into, and maintenance of, reporting systems / databases and follow up with clients
  • Preparing reports and records for funders, the company and other bodies
  • Working cooperatively with other staff, board and committees in meeting the objectives of the SICAP programme
  • To undertake, as requested, other relevant duties including initiating and assisting in the submission of funding proposals as required

Person Specification:

  • Significant prior experience in the provision of one-to-one guidance support to unemployed adults in terms of career progression and employment
  • A relevant qualification in adult guidance or a related discipline is desirable but not essential
  • Experience and a relevant qualification in group training provision would be an advantage
  • Ability and proven experience of developing links with the business sector
  • An ability to operate the required reporting systems

Personal / Professional Attributes:

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to prioritise and work to challenging targets
  • Understanding of issues and barriers that face unemployed people
