Healthy Food Made Easy (HFME)

The Healthy Food Made Easy (HFME) Programme is a community based basic nutrition and cookery course funded by the HSE and supported by HSE dieticians. The course helps people to change to a healthy diet, plan meals on a budget and make easy to cook meals. The course content is based on the most up-to-date healthy eating guidelines from the Department of Health.

What is the Healthy Food Made Easy course?
The course runs for 6 weeks, each week a different topic is cover and includes nutritional information and hands on cooking.

Course Delivery:
The courses are delivered by peer trainers (people in the community trained to deliver the course)

You can take part in our course if you:

  • Are over 16 years of age
  • Live in the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown catchment area.
  • A community group in the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown area.
  • Parents’ groups
  • Youth groups
  • People who use HSE services
  • Older peoples’ groups
  • Men’s & Women Sheds

What can I expect from taking part in a course?
You can expect to:

  • Get an understanding of the different nutrients in your food and the importance of these
  • Understand the information on the food pyramid
  • Understand how to read food labels
  • Plan shopping on a budget
  • Learn how to cook simple, delicious meals
  • Get a handbook with the information and recipes used on the course
  • Receive a certificate of attendance (if you attend five sessions of the six)

How to take part:

  • If you are a community group and would like to run a course for a minimum of 12 people, we can try to arrange a time and location to meet your needs.
  • If you are an individual, you can put your name on our list for the next course.

The Forum works with all relevant bodies to develop a comprehensive response to Domestic Abuse and Violence. The group raises awareness of the effects of Domestic Abuse within communities. It works to establish effective links with agencies working on behalf of those at risk of Domestic Violence.

The HSE Living Well with Dementia (LWwD) programme is an award-winning initiative which develops and delivers innovative services and supports to people living with dementia and their families in their communities. LWwD is a community-based programme which focuses on the strengths and personhood of the individual. Our vision is of a community that respects, supports and empowers people with dementia, a community in which people with dementia are socially and culturally valued, and where they can actively participate in society in a safe environment. Our guiding principle is to ‘See the Person, Not their Dementia’

The Community Connector Programme connected with the Integrated Care Hub for the Older Person (ICPOP Dublin South East) is a specialist social prescribing service with a focus on people over 65 who have more complex care needs.
