Southside Partnership has a long history of working with a wide range of partners from the statutory, voluntary and community sectors. We collaborate with our partners to design, coordinate and implement programmes and projects in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown to support the needs of individuals and groups who are experiencing some form of disadvantage or social exclusion.

These may be;

  • Unemployed people who need supports to become job-ready.
  • Lone parents who need support with parenting skills, access to childcare, or securing part-time employment.
  • Ethnic minorities who need support with language skills or integrating into Irish society.
  • Children from disadvantaged communities who need support with their homework or exam preparation.

In order to provide these types of supports, we operate a range of programmes and projects on behalf of specific funders and seek to engage and collaborate with other interested parties and like-minded organisations.

Our Partnership approach

The work of ‘partnership’ is all about creating the conditions for dialogue so that there is a better understanding of ‘what will work’ and make a positive difference in the lives of individuals, families and communities.

We see our partnership approach as:

  • Engaging directly and honestly with individuals, their families and communities; and working in ways that are directly relevant to the challenges and opportunities that become apparent to them in their daily lives.
  • Learning from experience and making sense of the various forms of data that we produce and access.
  • Communicating an informed view of the reality of people’s lived experience as we address the causes of poverty and social exclusion.
  • Enabling the interface between communities that experience disadvantage and the services that they need.
  • Making sense of national government policy by anticipating and commenting on policies and decisions that directly impact on the lives of people and on groups who live with inequality and limited access to education, health and community services.
  • Equipping citizens – particularly those who are socially excluded – with the necessary information and skills to engage with the structures and agencies that plan and deliver services across the county.
  • Sustaining collaboration and the growth of a ‘partnership culture’ by building trust, effective governance, and addressing the risks associated with dis-jointed thinking in the implementation of local development strategies.

Our Strategic Plan 2020 - 2023

In writing this plan, we have taken time to reflect on our work over recent years. We have also studied the local and national context. We have listened carefully to our stakeholders, including clients, partners, staff, board members and funders. The strategic choices we have made reflect the collective priorities of our stakeholders. As always, we will continue to work towards a more inclusive and just society which is lived out in vibrant communities.

We know that this is an ambitious plan. However, if Southside Partnership DLR is to be an agent for change within the communities that we support, our aspirations must be high. We welcome the encouragement and support of all who share our desire to make a difference to the lives of those living in our communities.

We hope that this Strategic Plan 2020 – 2023 will help to inspire all of us to keep social inclusion at the top of our agendas.
