See below for full details.

HAVE YOU HEARD OF THE LIVING WELL WITH DEMENTIA PROGRAMME (LWwD?)

Are you or someone you care for living with a diagnosis of dementia. If so, Living Well with Dementia is here to support you.                                         LWwD is an award-winning programme providing community based social activities to people living with dementia and                                                   their families and we are delighted to introduce to the newly launched LWwD website. If you are living in Dublin South,                                                               Dún Laoghaire or Dublin  Southeast and have a diagnosis of dementia you can avail of our services.

Our vision is to see a community that respects, supports and empowers people with dementia; a community in which people with                                          dementia are socially and culturally valued: a community where people with dementia still actively participate in a safe                                 environment.

Do you know?

·        That there are approximately 64,000 people diagnosed with dementia in Ireland and the majority of people with dementia                                      (63%) live at home in the community.

·       That Social engagement stimulates cognitive processes including memory, attention, and problem solving, which can keep                                        the brain active and resilient.

·       That a rich social network provides sources of support, reduces stress, combats depression and enhances intellectual                                stimulation. Studies have shown that those with the most social interaction within their community experience the                                              slowest rate of memory decline.

LWwD run several weekly activity groups that are open to all but are particularly welcoming to people with dementia, their

families and carers

including, Choir, Art, Dance, Exercise & Bridge. All groups are led by a trained facilitator and supported by a team of dedicated

volunteers. We invite you to visit our website at www.livingwellwithdementia.ie to see full details of the support and services

available to you in our community.

Overview of the Programme:

* Living Well with Dementia is an award-winning initiative which develops and delivers innovative services and supports to                                         people living with dementia and their families in their communities.

The programme is hosted by Southside Partnership and our vision is of a community that respects, supports and empowers                                        people with dementia, a community in which people with dementia are socially and culturally valued, and where they can                                          actively participate in society in a safe environment. Central to the success of the programme is respect for the dignity,                                             welfare and wellbeing, will and preferences, beliefs and values of each person living with dementia.

Our guiding principle is toSee the Person, Not their Dementia’.

We look forward to you joining us on our new LWwD website where we will offer updates on events and information to                                          support the community.
